The Apple Mac Platform has Built-In Security Features, But What Are They?
Apple's Mac platform has always been known as having built in security features and not needing anti-virus software. Mac's have 3 built in layers of defense to protect you, and we will explore wether you need any anti-virus or if you can live without that extra piece of software.

All of these tools come built in and run in the background on all
up to date Apple Macintosh Computers.

Malware/Virus ScannerNotarization is a built in tool that runs in the background scanning your software and files for potential threats, or malware. If it finds no threat it gives it a 'ticket' which allows other programs to interact and use the software.
XProtect
Malware/Virus RemovalXprotect is another antivirus technology that is used to identifiy and terminate threats to your computer. It looks at an app when it is first launched, when it gets changed, or updated.
Gatekeeper
Software VerificationThis program verifys all programs are authentic and do not come from an unauthorized source. Whenever you are required to put in your password to download an app, that is Gatekeeper working to keep you safe!
So...Do you need extra Anti-Virus on a Mac?
The answer is no! As an IT professional I do not reccomend Mac anti-virus software, the only thing I see it do for my clients is slow down their computer, take up extra space and in the worst case install malware/viruses of its own. Stay safe while browsing the internet, emailing and you will be fine.
